Residential complex "Drei Höfe", Munich

Cooperative housing with differentiated open spaces. Tree courtyard for peace and quiet, development courtyard with communal and private areas whose curves mark the entrances. Play yard for small children's play. The offer is rounded off by communal roof terraces.

## Cooperative residential building

The three yards receive varying kinds of functions, offering differentiated possibilities for the residents. The selected structure should minimise conflicts between private and common use.
The tree yard is a quiet, recreational place. The remaining old trees create a contemplative atmosphere, encouraged from a supplemental watertable.

The accession/entrance yard is divided in a central grove for common use and shielded private front gardens. Canopied functional elements for parking bikes and storing equipment separate private from public areas, at the same time they serve as screens for the private zones. The outer edges of the clearly defined and framed areas are constructed as seatings, inside they are covered with varying materials. Rotundities in the facade mark the entrances of the buildings.

The main feature of the play yard is a band with epdm flooring, equipped with a slide, climbing gadgets, a trampoline and else. Accompanying benches, arranged in the light shade of serviceberries (Amelanchier) offer possibilities for resting and watching.

The offer is rounded off by communal roof terraces. Planted areas divide wooden decks for sitting and lying down. The necessary building services are integrated into the structures and concealed by them.

The project was implemented in two construction phases, interrupted by a break of several years, which was also used to involve the residents of the first phase and to let experiences from use flow into the second construction phase.
