Open Space Management University

The university gardens are maintained by external horticultural companies. This service contract is put out to public tender every four years. We oversee this tender and the annual quality assurance for around 35 gardens in Zurich.

In addition to the two main locations, Uni-Zentrum and Uni-Irchel, the University of Zurich has several dozen external locations. These are housed in very different buildings, from listed villas to modern office buildings. Correspondingly, their open spaces are also different, ranging from gardens of historical value to small areas in the form of spaced greenery. Due to the size of the contracts, external maintenance must be put out to public tender every four years. For this purpose, different lots are formed and a qualification procedure is used to find suitable companies that can offer this work. The tendering process is based on our maintenance plans and service specifications.
Over the term of the service contracts, we carry out quality control of the work and control where necessary. We coordinate conventional green space maintenance with renovation work, conversion work and tree care.
