Buonas has been mentioned in documents as the seat of a noble lineage since the 12th century.
From 1871 onwards, the peninsula scattered with trees, which had been used for agricultural purposes, was converted into an English-style landscape park. The trees, which were already one of the park’s main elements at that time, constitute a prized feature of the facility. In addition to the numerous beech trees that gave the peninsula its name, there are also imposing oaks along the banks and robust European chestnut trees on the southern slope of the range of hills. Expressive individual trees emphasize spaces, and formal woody plant elements line paths or characterize locations. Besides the maintenance and securing of the stock of trees, the park maintenance plan recommends the realization of a few targeted measures to bring out the main design features of the original park. These measures include primarily the guiding of sightlines to provide strollers with a deliberately staged succession of images. A further goal of the ideal plan is the plumbing of the horticultural potential of the site. While retaining the basic historical structure, selected areas of the park such as the plantings of rhododendrons, the pond site or the plant nursery will be further developed and partially redesigned as a garden theme.
