KVA Waste incineration plant Forsthaus

The new, 300-meter-long energy center is anchored like a cargo ship in the Bremgarterwald (Bremgarten Forest) before the gates of Bern. We congratulate Graber Pulver Architekten AG on winning the top prize at the ARC Award 2013 in the category of “office, commercial, retail, and industrial buildings.” We are responsible for the outdoor areas and inner courtyards.

The new, 300-meter-long energy center is anchored like a cargo ship in the Bremgartenwald (Bremgarten Forest) before the gates of Bern. The branches of the trees in the forest toward Bremgartenstrasse were pruned up to ca. 8m. Cleared areas were reforested. A pedestrian path leads through the forest. A trough for rainwater captures the surface water from the roof surfaces and the street for drainage. The three inner courtyards are used in different ways. They follow a succession from stone courtyard to vegetation courtyard. The entrance plaza and the parking areas take up the look of the forest.
