Townhouse Complex Bürkliplatz

The town house complex, Bürkli-platz and the Bürkli terrace lie axially in front of the national bank. They form a hinge between the lake and the Limmat River.

The sequence of squares was developed in 1887 after part of the lake was filled in as a central part of the quay facilities. Already redesigned several times, with a new traffic concept it was possible to retain the size of the square for the townhouse complex while nonetheless creating safe cycling paths. The old trees that originally lined curving pathways were re-tained. A new grid with ten different varieties of trees creates a high green canopy and thus also a place where the market can be held. In the midst of the noisy center, it was possible to create a pleasant place to linger.
